Baya - weaverbirds in their breeding plumage

The male Bayas acquire a beautiful breeding plumage at the onset of monsoon when they start building their well-known inverted retort shaped nests. Watching the birds feeding on a low shrub of Cassia auriculata offers a 'birds eye-view' of their habitat. I liked chasing these birds as they flitted from one flowering shrub to other. Sitting down on the ground I made a brief but intense eye contact with one of the female bird. It remained in my mind and I did a very hasty sketch till it was fresh in my memory, which served as a reference of this painting.
